Public Relations = Relationships
Poor old PR, probably the most misunderstood of the three of our business development services.
So many people (unfortunately often including PR consultants themselves) see PR as merely being ‘free’ media coverage and don’t therefore see its place in their business. But if you open it up to the many possibilities it can include it becomes one of the most powerful of the three strategies.
PR seen as the identification, creation and management of relationships can help a business to grow with less effort and investment.
Let’s look at the three steps again to see how this can occur
Advertising generates interest
Marketing achieves a transaction
PR creates a relationship
Traditionally organisations oscillate their activities between sending messages to gain transactions in a cyclical manner.
But with our model, where a transaction becomes the starting point of a relationship, referrals and repeat purchases make up the bulk of sales. Thus the reliance upon costly advertising to find new customers is replaced by the ability to generate repeat sales and new customers from referral processes.
